Yad Yisroel – Mishpacha Kihalacha
Yad Yisroel’s main mission is to bring our Jewish heritage to Jews in the former Soviet Union who have drifted apart from Jewish tradition. The affiliated Mishpacha Kihalacha organization, run by Rabbi Avi Gewirtzman, helps meet this worthy goal. The organization carries out most of its activities in the former Soviet Union, and in recent years it has expanded its operation to Israel and North America. The program has proven most successful as it has brought many Jewish couples together and started many Jewish families.
Mishpacha Kihalacha focuses on the laws and rituals that pertain to the Jewish family as a whole, such as family purity and Torah education for children, and the religious obligations of Jewish women, chief among them: modest dress (tzniut); lighting the Shabbos candles, baking the Shabbos challa and immersion in the purifying mikveh bath.
The organization is active in areas such as: providing guidance for newlyweds, stressing the importance of marriage within the framework of Judaism, preparing Jewish wedding ceremonies, running seminars for youth and young married couples, organizing a pool of candidates who are interested in building a home in Israel, writing books on halacha and Jewish perspective, translating existing books under a special program and giving lessons on the subjects of family purity, education, children and more.
In a seminar that was held in Pinsk in September 2013, Jewish family customs were discussed at great length in lectures delivered by Rabbi and Mrs. Roy Neuberger and Rabbi and Mrs. Levi Godalevich.
Over the years the organization has brought about a positive change for many families. Moreover, many youth have been exposed for the first time to vital information that will help them make critical decisions.
With the development of technology and means of illustration the organization has worked diligently to bring the message of the Jewish family and all that implies to every Jewish man and woman. The organization’s professionals in cooperation with top experts are always striving to find new and interesting ways to raise Jewish awareness and assimilate it among potential populations.
The organization’s lecturers include: Harav Simcha Cohen, Harav Zvi Kaplan and Harabbanit Esther Ofingenden. The organization also benefits from consultations and guidance from Harav Asher Weiss, Harav Ben Zion Zilber, Harav Yitzhak Issac Kahana and Harav Moshe Fhima.
