Kollel A Thriving Center of Talmudic Study in Pinsk

As part of its mission to foster a strong Jewish presence in Belarus and other points in the former Soviet Union, Yad Yisroel operates a Kollel in Pinsk for its best Talmud scholars.

A Kollel is a Yeshiva institute where students gather for intensive studies of the Torah, Talmud and rabbinical texts on a full-time basis. The Yad Yisroel Kollel in Pinsk is unique in that its sixteen students dedicate their morning hours to study and in the afternoons they participate in a number of programs for the benefit of the Jewish community. And indeed, there are many opportunities for getting involved with Jewish causes in the urban centers and rural towns all over Belarus, such as:  distributing food and clothing to the needy; delivering emergency medication and providing transportation to hospitals for elderly Jews who live in remote areas; organizing study groups, workshops and lectures for Jewish youth; teaching Bar-Mitzvah youth how to read from the Torah and counselling young married Jewish couples.

In more ways than one, the Kollel is the hub of Jewish activity in Belarus. This model yeshiva institute nurtures the country’s very best Judaic scholars, who in turn set an example for youth in the cheder program and other members of the community who seek spiritual guidance. The Kollel enables its students to expand their Torah horizons and make strides towards great scholastic achievements. And above all, the Kollel produces the very best human resources for the admirable purpose of giving back to the Jewish community.
