Yad Yisroel is active in making observance of the laws of kashrut a way of life in Jewish communities all over Belarus.
With the alienation from Jewish tradition that came as a consequence of Soviet rule, Yad Yisroel has staged a comeback for kashrut. This has been no simple task as until recently Belarus lacked a central authority that could effectively regulate the process of maintaining kashrut for mass consumption.
With help from Yad Yisroel, experts in the area of kashrut were sent to Israel on a regular basis to obtain a practical knowledge of how this is carried out. Cooperation with the Israeli rabbanut and food industry has taught the Belarusian representatives how to ensure that the production of strictly kosher food is implemented according to the highest standards.
The result of this undertaking was the recent establishment of Kashrut Bel, the first kashrut agency in Belarus. In November 2013, Kashrut Bel attended a three day exposition in the Belarusian food market, which was attended by over 250 local food manufacturers. The Kashrut Bel group ran their booth, introduced themselves to the marketplace and made a strong statement: kosher products are now available for all those who wish to observe Jewish dietary laws.
